What I want to know is.........

Who, out of all those pictures that are posted with the messages are really pictures of the people who post. I mean is that really Martin Milner? I know that is Sandy Jasper and I think that may really be Jessie. Anna Martinez is really cute but somehow the ears don’t fit. Bloomfield…well is that really you contemplating the difference between an e flat and a b flat? Chuck Clark… you must have got up on the wrong side of the dog house. Sweetone, is that a tatoo on your arm? Ok I give…who is who and what is what?

My avatar is from a picture a fellow C&F member took during a visit last year to the Maryland RenFest.

Yeah, my avatar is me, but it’s a picture from a few (ok, 4) years ago. I look a little older now.

Edit: Here’s a current picture.

Avatar, oh so that’s what they are, where did that word come from?

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=avatar

n. Syn. [in Hindu mythology, the incarnation of a god]

  1. Among people working on virtual reality and cyberspace interfaces, an “avatar” is an icon or representation of a user in a shared virtual reality. The term is sometimes used on MUDs.
  2. [CMU, Tektronix] root, superuser. There are quite a few Unix machines on which the name of the superuser account is avatar' rather than root’. This quirk was originated by a CMU hacker who found the terms root' and superuser’ unimaginative, and thought `avatar’ might better impress people with the responsibility they were accepting.

av-a-tar n.[skt. avatarah ava, down + tarati, he crosses] 1. a. An incarnation or embodiment, as a of a quality or concept. b. A varying manifestation or aspect of a particular entity. 2. The incarnation of esp. a Hindu deity in human form.

So there you have it. As you can plainly see, in the picture is a man playing the sousaphone. That man is me, I am not however (as far as I know) an incarnation of any deity, be they Hindu or otherwise. The photo does however embody a certain something of my (now past) tuba and sousaphone playing self.

That is NOT me. At least the last time I checked it was not me. I am NOT that cute. It is actually a leopard gecko that I facilitated the hatching of this year.

I am actually invisible, that is why I have to put that picture there.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the definitions came from “Webster’s II, New Riverside University Dictionary” @ 1984.

Yup, that really is me.

Mike

Chiffers complained at my avatar picture :frowning:
I can’t help it. :sniffle:

Sulk

On my avatar is not me, but an origami representation of St. George, on horseback, conquering the dragon.

I don’t have an avatar yet, but what I want to know is where people get the avatars that move?

says the wise guy who uses his name and avatar to protect himself form foolish people :sunglasses:

You can download them from http://www.animationfactory.com or you can download Unfreez from a freeware site, and make your own animated GIF, such as my avatar on Gaelic Crossings.

GRRRRRRRR!

I didn’t. I loved that morphatar. Cracked me up every time.

I haven’t looked like my avatar since the Dark Crystal was healed during the last Great Conjunction. I really wanted a picture of the Olson twins eating each other’s limbs but couldn’t locate it.
Cheers,
Aaron

This is really me. Tom Dowling’s avatar is really him (I’ve seen him). I’ve seen Bloomfield, but if I tell you whether or not that’s him in his avatar, he would have to kill me.

Those are the only C&F’ers I’ve met in person who have a photo avatar.

I’m inspired by Cranberry . . . I’m thinking of changing my avatar every so often. I couldn’t understand why Cranberry kept changing his, but now I see it as a reflection of mood, or different sides of a personality. Anyway, that’s Kate staring back at you . . . that takes me back to being seventeen years old. Her music was amazing. It still is, but she hasn’t recorded in some time. Thank the goddess we have Tori Amos!
