What flute events

Hi fluteys,
I’m interested to know from the wider flute world what flute events people are involved with?
For me, aside from local sessions there are a couple of major weekend workshop events near Inverness. In Feb and May.
Cheers
James

I can’t say enough good things about Boxwood Festival, held in Lunenberg, Nova Scotia (usually in July). (There is also a festival in New Zealand.) Very laid back, non-competitive atmosphere in a gorgeous town. The guests artists are fantastic. Chris Norman runs it, and so he teaches every year. This past year Sylvain Barou taught as well. Emer Mayock was also scheduled but had to cancel for medical reasons. She was replaced by a fun Klezmer player, Adrianne Greenbaum. Liz Carroll was there this year as well. They set things up in such a way that whether you are a beginner or an expert, you get to study with all the artists.

This was my first year, and I really want to go back. My sense from other participants is that once you go, you want to keep going every year. The result is that it seems like a reunion of sorts for many people.

A look at this list will give you an idea of the caliber of artists they have every year: http://www.boxwood.org/about_history.html

Their main site is http://www.boxwood.org/

p.s. As much as it mind sound like it, I have no financial stake or interest in the festival.

looks like a great time – Maybe I’ll get to go someday. thanks for the info…
