We can all get a little ‘narrow’ in our outlook, after we take up the UPs’. What distraction activity do you indulge in to take your mind off, Rolls, Crans, Back Stitching, etc. Reed Making - Ha! I assume house work isn’t an option here.
Personally, I take time to visit Jodrell Bank, that great scientific institution in in Buckinghamshire, and relax on my back, gazing at the stars, before I fall asleep, to dream of tighter triplets, soaring slides, and stopped notes rising to the upper octaves, not to mention popping.
If only I was good at these techniques! What do you do?
Try watching the Telly with the sound turned down, whilst you practice… what d’you mean there are other people in your house who might wish to Watch tele properly… So anyway, before we get rudely interupted by another despicable thought… this is a good way of doing two things at once… takes your mind off the tight tripplets… Watch the pretty pictures.. saves going out to find something else to do…
Aye, I also watch TV when playing/practicing at home, usually a film or TV series with subtitles and the sound at a lower volume than the pipes or flute. Otherwise I practice electric guitar solos, read books, or take the motorbike out into the countryside and then go for a walk.
Per the original question: piping is my de-stress/distraction from my business, so I always have that to go back to after. Currently, I keep my pipes in my office and play there anyway since it is much easier to keep humidified than the house.
