Is it possible for anyone to tell from the sound? If not exactly, can anyone make any recommendations as to which maker would have a sound similar to this? (High end or inexpensive… hopefully inexpensive… )
I don’t think this will take much detective work.
If you look at other videos on Salmon’s Leap’s
site, you can see what looks like an Abell being
played and it sounds similar. http://www.salmonsleap.com/id32.html
Anyway, I emailed the band, maybe we’ll find
out straight from the source…
Wow, thanks for all the help guys, it would be great (and definitive) to find out straight from the band.
On s slightly unrelated note, this is a great forum… where totally non-contributing people like me can leech information from people who actually know what they’re talking about.
Hello everyone,
Marc here from Salmon’s Leap,
I believe I can answer the question of what whistle Celia plays in the video,
and to answer FascinatedWanderer question if it was inexpensive…it goes for about $200
It is a Michael Burke whistle Aluminum D soprano
The whistle that Celia is holding in the picture is actually a Chieftan Low A whistle that I play.
I’m sure it could be done but why? Whistles are so easy to tell apart just by the sound. Like this one - a tweaked brass Gen, not one of Jerry’s, with blue Tac in the head, tape on the F# hole, played out the left side of the mouth. Oh, yes, and a blue fipple.
Hi, Marc, thanks for posting here. I’ll read your post in a minute…
Yeah different. I think different keys and different key whistles too. I prefer the second more laid back version personally, though I’d be very happy to sound like either of them!!
