Is anyone familiar with the book “Welsh Folk Tunes for Whistle”? (Welsh title: Alawon Gwerin Cymreig I’r Bib Dun)

Thoughts? Opinions?

Don’t know where you’re located or whether you’re a beginner, or not, but it looks like a pretty insubstantial book for beginners including finger charts. Along the lines of those given away in beginner whistle packs?

There are good books of Welsh tunes, online Welsh tunes, and in Wales, at least, Welsh tune learning sessions. But, I’d guess not this one.

No, not looking at it for a beginners’ tutorial, just to get some Welsh tunes. I live in Pennsylvania, and bought the book from the Welsh group Crasdant after they performed at a Celtic festival here.

Is there such a thing as a distinct Welsh style of playing the whistle?

I’m too far East to be much help on that one - our sessions are either English/Welsh or Irish, and I seem to get away with most things…

Cariad, EasilyDeludedFool and theWesleyan would be worth a shout/PM if they don’t find this in a day or two.

No. Sorry!

Try http://www.contemplator.com/wales/
and download the midi files and words from there.
If you use something like MidiNotate or Tablature Karaoke
you should be able to isolate the melody for yer whistle,
and learn the tunes from there.

Failing that, I’ve got a zip file with 70 or so Welsh midi tunes that I can
email direct if you like.
