And no, Iâm not German, Iâm afraid, I just have this incurable fondness for a German band called Subway to Sally, that happens to have a song called âHenkersbrautâ. (And yes, I do know what it means )

Sorry, itâs all a bit of in-joking among German speakers.
Henkersbraut means Hangmanâs Bride.
In German folk songs, the word âBrautâ seems to mean not just a newly-married woman but also one who is shaping up to get married, and there can be a certain amount of ambiguity about just how far the relationship has progressed.
In a similar vein, Bill Brysonâs exposĂ© of the traditional but seemingly rather weird US practice of âbundlingâ in âMade in Americaâ suggests that the behaviour of the betrothed/fiancĂ©es/brides of old may not always have been quite as puritan as we have been led to believe.

Tom, we have âHerzblutâ and we REALLY like it. A bit loud in places, dark gothic tendencies. I donât understand much of the texts but Brigitte says that is sometimes for the better.. We were told to go for the album made in 1994 so we may do that.
Henkersbraut do you know âFiddlers Greenâ?? and their album âFolk Raiderâ ? The last track (Tangerine) which is probably my favourite has âFishâ singing at the end. Such a great track and it was a suprise as I had just got into Subway when this album came out. To keep on the subject of whistles on the Fiddlers album is a Brilliant version of Picards Jigs played on Low D. I will not say anything about the previous album âAnother Skyâ but it also has a guest whistle player on a few tunes :roll: www.fiddlers.de check it out.

Yes, Iâve just ordered it from amazon.de - what Iâve heard of it sounds really promising! I heard âTangerineâ a couple of months back, and I love it. Eric Fish really does have a special voice, so itâs not very hard to hear itâs him. He also played bagpipes and whistle on that one, I think.
