weird-rare flute

Hi all,

this flute has been flagged up in another post, I was just wondering if it was something anyone had ever played, and if it would sound like a standard Boehm flute from a tone point of view.

I would be greatful for any input, being simple system would make the F sharp play as per a whistle or any other simple system flute four fingers down.

thanks for any input

As I said on another post, I played an Eb version that looked exactly like the ebay one. I wasn’t very impressed, and for sure it isn’t worth that price (my friend got his one for very little money, can’t remember how much but was less the 50 euros).

It didn’t sound too much like a Boehm flute, the little holes make a big difference apparently. To me, it combines the bad things of both systems: the less interesting sound of the cylindrical bore (which is the worse thing), the lower volume of the small holes (but it did have some volume), the more difficult fingering of the simple system (for tunes in “strange” keys).
It wasn’t THAT bad, and the tuning was good, but I would’t bother… Maybe the ebay one will be better, who knows, but I wouldn’t risk it for that price.

It does suggest the idea of doing something with a conical bore based on Pratten or Rudall. I’ve seen such flutes but they usually are bored like French 5 keyed flutes. Its an idea I might try someday.

I saw an italian Rampone on ebay once. It was exactly like a wooden one (conical, with lots of keys-viennese style) but made of silver (not sure if it was solid silver, looked nice though). I really wanted to buy it but the seller ended the auction before the end, saying that he had some problems etc… I’m still waiting to see it on ebay again.
