Weird flute on ebay? Pratten boehm mix maybe?

Not sure if this forum will be of assistance but a google search showed it may be useful or informative to post here. Found a weird flute on ebay but not sure if its some kind of Pratten style mixed with boehm. Just getting back into flute after 30 years so I may be mistaken on suggesting this instrument to be similar to pratten, just going by what I recall. Here is the link to the instrument in inquiry http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200681584968 (hopefully that’s clickable). I apologize if my terms are used improperly, trying to get back in the hang of things. Thank you for your time.

Why would you say that it has something of the Pratten style? It looks perfectly like a wooden Boehm system to me, there are plenty of them around.

Yup. Wooden Bohm, Has a few extra optional features, but nothing outlandish. Not remotely Pratten-ish.

Deathbyflute, if you want a refresher, to get up to speed and save yourself asking a load of Qs here, spend some time on Rick Wilson’s and Terry McGee’s websites. Time spent browsing the makers’ websites on The List is also instructive with regard to flute history, models, etc..

I,m with Lorenzo looks like a boehm.
I usually look for the long F or hybrid block and rod mounted keys as the giveaway of the system.
What do we call these hybrid oldnsystem?
Covered or plateau key old system?
Here is one that looks like a hybrid system though:

:boggle: It IS a Bohm. Yes, it has platter/plateau keys. It IS NOT a hybrid. Don’t just look at the pictures, read the listing blurb - no ambiguity, quite clear what it is!

Yes, this one is a hybrid (and ludicrously over-priced given its condition and that it is HP). It’s a covered-key Simple System using both block mounts and pillar mounted rod axles on a Bohm tube.

cf Rick Wilson!!! :poke:

Strewff… horses…water…mumble mumble :swear:

I was agreeing with Loroenzo it is a boehm.
I was asking what we usually call these other simple systems.
I never hinted it was a hybrid then I gave the clues as to what to look for in a hybrid system as well as an example.
Yikes…

Never saw your post as I was writing mine. The nitpicking on the forum is exhausting…

Well, some of this hybrids have names (the most famous is the Radcliff system). Again, check out Rick Wilson’s website: http://www.oldflutes.com/

The ebay flute you mentioned I’d call it, well, “covered-key simple system flute on Boehm tube”… Still a simple system anyway.

Sorry, dunnp - didn’t realise we were cross-posting with our first ones… but yours still reads to me the way I read it first time - it appears to imply you think the eBay Bohm flute might be a hybrid. I now know you didn’t mean that, but… the way you wrote it is rather unclear, to me at least

Oops! I think the thumb setup threw me for a loop. Time to re-educate myself. Thank you for the resourceful links that I have set forth to read!

Sorry for being unclear.

I should think so too.

Mind, it must be almost unbearable being ‘told off’ by Jem. Remember what Healey said about being attacked by Howe?* “Like being savaged by a dead sheep.”

*(No, of course you don’t - you’re all too young. :frowning: )

a scary sheep

You seem to survive… though whether you can “bear” it…

I’m not (too young, that is). And I’m still alive… kinda… I think… Bah!

P’r’aps I should’ve said un-baa-rable …

Serious flute folks r teh serious!

Bring your A game!
