I’ve got a smile on my face, I’ve got four walls around me
The sun in the sky, the water surrounds me
I’ll win now but sometimes I’ll lose
I’ve been battered, but I’ll never bruise, it’s not so bad
[Chorus]
And I say way-hey-hey, it’s just an ordinary day
and it’s all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you’ve still got to say,
it’s all right.
See that girl on the street, what keeps her from dying
Let them say what they want, she won’t stop trying
She might stumble, if they push her 'round
She might fall, but she’ll never lie down
[Chorus]
It’s a beautiful day, but there’s always some sorrow
It’s a double edged knife, but there’s always tomorrow
It’s up to you now if you sink or swim,
Keep the faith and your ship will come in.
But it is also my birthday today! 59! I just love this song by Great Big Sea, and being an eternal optimist, this song just fits me like a glove. I’ve had a rough year medically, a scare of a lifetime, but tests have prove negative for now…and it is a gorgeous autumn day here!
So!
And I say way-hey-hey, it’s just an ordinary day
and it’s all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you’ve still got to say,
it’s all right.
I’ve never heard the song, but I think I like it. You picked a good time to post it, this being my last full day at my job, etc., but this is your birthday thread, so have a great one.
Thanks everyone! Brian, every time GBS got close to Windsor, I was either working that night or heading in the another direction.
I would love to drill into some serious Guinness tonight and some tunes but alas the reality is that I have to work tomorrow, and this body ain’t twenty four no more.
Nothin’ like the repeal of a serious life threat to brighten the day, eh? Congratulations!!
I remember it well… life just seems so worthwhile, even when it is only walking from one spot to another, seeing the wind move the long grass, hearing a child’s shout, holding someone you love… sometimes we need a serious reminder, but sometimes that reminder is more like a kick in the teeth!! Ah well… even a broken tooth can lead to a new smile.
