In a fit of WHoa I recently purchased a WW E nat. and a sop.D direct from Glenn (a great guy to do business with). I started out to get just the E but couldn’t help myself.
Any other weasel owners encountered this?
The E plays fine but when playing the D in the second octive I am getting a buzzing, both audible and I can feel it in my fingers. Is it the whistle or is it me?
You oughta get in touch with Glenn about it. I received a low-F a month or so ago, and it REALLY had an octave-jumping problem. I got in touch with him, he said he knew what the problem was and how to fix it, and to send it back. It took awhile, and a few reminders, but I got it back yesterday. I still can’t lay into it at the bottom like the G, but it’s really a fine whistle now.
Keep playing the whistle for a little while, and see if you adapt to the individual characteristics of the whistle. If not, by all means contact Glenn. He da man, and he can definitely fix the problem, if indeed it is a problem.
Thanks for the encouragement,Paul. I have put in some serious time on the whistle this morning, much to the chagrin of my sleeping wife, and am becoming convinced that it is ME.
The weasel takes quite a bit more breath than I’m used to to hold the second octive. I still get that pesky “buzzing” sensation and some undertones of the first octive. I’ve noticed that I have to “attack” the second octive G and above and be very careful about sealing the finger holes.
Dare I round off the sharp edges of the finger holes or leave it as the Master made and get used to it?
In any event I think I will take it to the regular Sunday music gathering at Eamonn’s tonight and force myself to “play it right”.
Oh, Paul, I had the pleasure of sitting in with Eric Marczak at a fund raiser a week or so ago. He let me play his 2 and 3 bore whistles and the wood and brass insert one you made for him. That is one beautiful instrument, maybe someday after I recover from paying for the Weasels.
