When a water bottle is empty and you blow on the top with the right technique, it makes a sound. If you made holes in the water bottle, would the notes change? Could you have invented a new “instrument?”
nope- you’d have an ocharina
I enjoy filling multiple bottles with water, tuning each to a note and playing simple tunes (like Old McDonald’s Farm) on them. This is especially fun if you have kids around–turning pop bottles into something musical amazes them. ![]()
What you might be able to do is, experiment with filling the water bottle partway with water and adjust the pitch by squeezing the bottle more or less to reduce or increase the amount of air above the water. That would make it playable as a melody instrument if you can find a combination of the right bottle and the right amount of water to give it enough range to work with.
It seems to me, I saw someone do this on Letterman with a turkey baster. If I remember properly, he played the William Tell Overture on it.
Best wishes,
Jerry
Come Jerry you are one of the Tweakers (as am I, I am going to send Wandering some of my work to review) I am sure you could figure something out.
With all due respect, Jerry is not “one of the Tweakers.” He is The Tweaker.
Learn it. Live it. Love it.
