hi pj sale was real second chance offer was a fraud but the page setup & 2nd chance offer & ebay payment instructions where an exact duplicate of ebays pages, we had absoloutley no reason to believe they where anything other than ebay itself — very worrying

Sorry to hear that, I got done on yahoo auctions about 2 years ago while trying to buy some recording equipment. I know the feeling.
Sorry this happened to you. Sometimes I think there’s more crooks out there than honest people! The devil is in the details so I’ll add my 2 cents worth. Everytime I get these “second chance” offers and click on the “click here” box I watch to see where I’m sent and if it does not have the letters “EBAY” somewhere in the address it’s bogus. They also continually send me the message that I need to furnish them with my password so they can straighten out my paypal account and I’ve never applied for paypal, but just out of curiosity I click on the “click here” box and sure enough, it sends me to an address without the letters “EBAY” so I leave. You’d think EBAY would come up with a fix to protect it’s customers.

Yep, I too have received emails from Ebay with ‘Ebay’ in the sender’s email address but on closer inspection it still turned out to be a scam. If they don’t address you by your account name then that is a good indication it’s fraudulent. Even if they do, be very wary. I always send a copy with full headers to spoof@ebay.com and I get a reply shortly afterwards telling me if it’s legitimate or not.

So sorry to hear this Albert. I am not sure how you paid. Did you pay with a credit card???
If so you are fully covered by the insurance that the card carries.
Inform your card company of the fraud and they will set the wheels in motion.

if you log into your myebay page it should give you links and checkboxes for all messages and offers you have been legitimately given. Going from there should be safe. I don’t trust email links
