wanted keyless c flute

Hi, I will be touring the U.S shortly and i have the need for a keyless c flute…modest price. I played a ralph sweet c recently and liked it for the price, if anyone has one or something similar message me… as long as it is in tune with a half decent tone i will be happy , i am not fussy about what wood it is made from.cheers Barry

Get a Copley Delrin. They are hard to beat. Even in wood…

Of course R. sweet has these C flutes very quickly available. I have one in cherry and it has a lovely focused
sound. Don’t know how the price compares with the Copley C, which I’ve never played.

The Irish flute store has a Copley C blackwood in stock if your stuck.

Tried a Copley C in delrin recently, it was a very nice flute.

Dave’s delrin C flute is fantastic. It rips.

Can’t say enough good things about mine. Sound samples on Dave’s website here:

I have a delrin Copley C and you won’t find anything better!

Hi Barry, sorry, not got one of those.

This is one of the Copley’s being discussed (used blackwood & sterling C):

Maybe Doc Jones can set you up for a hire.

Are you coming anywhere near Los Angeles this time?

Piperbaz,

If you have medium to large-sized hands, I would also consider one of Doug Tipple’s low C flutes. They cost about 1/4 the price of a new Copley Delrin ringless low C flute, and they sound wonderful.

And, regardless of the affordable price, it’s still a ‘real’ flute. The workmanship and sound is amazing. Just be sure to get the lip plate and wedge when ordering.

BTW, is this another CT tour, or something else? For anyone who wants to see a little C flute playing, see http://www.myspace.com/barrykerrmusic/videos/a-reel-in-my-kitchen/61318339

Could you do with a Copley tunable Delrin polymer C? $400 without rings, $480 with. If so, you might prefer with the elliptical embouchure rather than the modern cut he defaults to on Delrin.

hi Kevin, thanks for the reply, I will be on tour with CT again this time around- I think i may be in your neck of the woods …i know we are in san Diego and perhaps LA. i hope all is well with you, this has been a great help re. the C flute. Cheers Barry

If not otherwise exhausted (wow, it looks brutal), you might want to try to get together with the San Diego (Oct. 25) or LA (Oct 26) session folks, or the Southern California Uilleann Pipers Club, and I can help put you in touch.

I see the North American tour is starting REALLY soon. If there’s time for Dave Copley to make a Delrin C for the tour (not likely for wood), for instance, you can probably resell it to recover most of the cost. I’m guessing you don’t want to move a lot of instruments back and forth.

Kevin

I suspect David made a bunch of flutes for the recent Dublin Irish Festival. Perhaps a C Delrin is among them. Anyway, worth giving him a call, and like Kevin said you can probably sell it pretty easily.Someone seems to offer to buy mine about once a month and I’m not on tour (and let’s not even start with the ability comparisons )!

Thanks for all the replies folks…turns out i am o.k for the show, i manage with my keyed D after all…i will hopefully see some of you on my travels, i will check out most places to see if there are any sessions around. The schedule is pretty hectic but we have a few days off…keep an eye out for me!! I will be at the bar with a pint of your local brew… whatever that may be, cheers Barry
