Hiya benbrad,
i hope you do finally find a used one, but really, you might just as well go ahead and buy a new one. They are reliable, high quality, and not dropping much in value in ‘used’ condition, so you really won’t likely save much even if you do find one used. Mike’s a great guy to deal with and you will be happy. Go for it!
If I didn’t at least try to save a few bucks my wife would beat me with a low D whistle.
Hey, I fully understand that one! You gave it a good go.
She should forgive… mostly…
lot’s a luck. Used seldom hits the market.
So no lumps no whistle.
Mike
Well I ordered a new one. I just got an e-mail from Mike’s wife that it will be mailed out tomorrow. Thanks for the help and advice.
I received the Burke DBSBT yesterday. Beautiful workmanship. I haven’t had a chance to play more than 5 or 6 tunes on it so far but it sounds good. I thought it would be heavier than it is. The lower tone tube is very thin walled and I expected it to be a bit thicker. That was just my own expectation. I was surprised to find it so light. I guess that’s a good thing though ??? Perhaps I will be less likely to drop it. I played it outside for a while yesterday and it was really windy but the sound did not drop out due to wind at all. Loud enough to be heard well but not too loud. My Chieftain on the other hand is much louder.
I thought it would be heavier than it is.
It’s impossible for something to be heavier than it is. ![]()
Makes it good for your next backpacking trip!
My Burke DBSBT is the heaviest whistle I have seen, including the low whistles I own.

How old is it? I understand that this model has recently gone through a design change.
It is marked May 2004.
