Want to make a flute

Want to try and make a flute… got no prior experience.

I’m creating this thread because I don’t know where to start.
I’m thinking of making a one-holed pan flute to start with, but wanna check if there are any websites or litterature that you guys would recommend. Or your own opinions and tips. Suggested tools and wood type?

Awaiting your answers intrepidly

This might be of help, not sure how accurate it is, but one of the things I bookmarked when I was thinking of making pan pipes. And there is some info about building bamboo pipes on the rest of that site.

Thx.
Doesn’t need to be accurate for a first flute when it comes to dimensions and such… as long as it makes a sound.
But of course, accurate litterature and web sites are preferred.

You mean I should start with a shakuhachi? Seems a bit advanced for a first flute, what with all those holes.

I’d guess brain fart

MTGuru’s post might have been to this thread https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/t/new-to-music-and-need-help-from-experienced-flute-players/67357/1

Ha!
Must be it.

I was wondering how reverb had anything to do with my poor pan flute.

Yep, sorry about that.

MTG, what’s the rent for the empty space per week?

This “Flute Calculator” site has been a “standard” for new flutemakers for years. I recommend it…
