I’m off to extreme southern Utah (little town of Kanab where I grew up) for four days of yee-hawing. Over 100 movies and tv series (mostly westerns) were made in Kanab in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. (If you’ve seen a western with a red rock in it, it was undoubtedly filmed near Kanab). They now have an annual four day Western Legends Roundup where old movie stars/directors from those good old days are honored. Bands/music (including my brothers and their blue grass band) from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (after that a jam session), Navajo dancing and rug weaving, dutch oven and quilting demonstrations, cowboy poetry
, shoot-outs, parade, panel discussions with star honorees and stuntmen, showing of movies made around Kanab, and tons more (including a Michael Martin Murphy concert held - where else? - in the high school auditorium!) And I’m probably the only person with a whistle in a 200 mile radius (maybe more). Nevertheless, I’m gonna have a rip-roaring good time and lift a can of Diet Coke to all of you! ![]()
