W-a-a-a-y OT - Earth At Night

Seeing as how this is a very International Board and today is Earthday, I thought you all might enjoy this NASA panorama, taken from the International Space Station, of the whole earth as viewed at night. It's in .jpg format:

How densely populated is it where you live?

Thanks Kendra,

As I’ve lived my 53 years, reading Heinlein and company, I’ve dreamed of going into space and looking back at earth. That dream has been at least partially realized in this incarnation by pictures such as you’ve passed on. How appropriate for you post this here on Earth Day. Thanks.

Thanks Kendra. I’ve seen this image before, and find it fascinating. But what I really find hard to imagine is what Antarctica really looks like. I teach science in an elementary school and find it hard for the little ones to understand that the picture is spread out, to fit on a flat surface.

I also have some sites that you might not be familiar with:

From way up here
The earth is very small
It’s just a little ball of rock and sea and sand
No bigger than my hand
