I just downloaded this and checked before and after my local disc C. it freed up 20 G’s of memory 
it has been my experience that in the P C world, pleasant surprises are few and far between. has anyone else noticed this?

Yep, I saw this behavior as well.
The system is also noticeably faster after the SP2 install. I was very pleased!

My wife is always complaing about her computer being so slow. She has Vista Home Basic, and I have her computer on a home network with a G router. The computer is set for automatic updates, but I don’t know whether Vista service packs are also automatically installed, or not. I guess that I need to pay greater attention to her computer, which is upstairs next to a pile of clothes that need ironing and balls of yarn that have gotten all tangled up. Like I said, I try to stay out of her personal space, except when there is something that needs to be done.
I haven’t seen any space reclaimed. I actually lost 300 megs in the ordeal, which is what I would expect of a service pack (heck, I’m surprised a gig or two didn’t disappear). I have, however, noticed a fair performance gain. I should have actually performed some metrics before and after to measure it, but I didn’t think of it 'til just now.
