Video of my band (and a Burke brass session D)

Hey everyone,

Been awhile. Maybe one of these days I’ll change my picture to something more recent than high school…

Anyways, I want to offer a link to a youtube video of my band playing “O Holy Night” a couple weeks ago. I’m thinking about ordering a Rose D whistle and am combing the web for audio samples of them… Got me thinking: if there’s anyone out there considering a Michael Burke brass session high D (that’s what I’m playing in the vid), I’d really recommend that whistle. Here’s a chance to hear one across the range of the low D to high B - I particularly love how strong the lowest note is. Every Burke I own has an amazing balance and fantastically stable bell note. As far as high whistles go, they’re all I play at gigs. The brass models do have a really pleasant, smooth chiff - not at all overwhelming. Some of our tunes, though, could use that crispness of a wooden bore…why I’m thinking about a Rose, too.

Enjoy (or not!),

That clip was really lovely. The Burke sounds great! I’m a trad player all the time and so I’m always kind of shocked and amazed to see what other interesting music people can make with the whistle. I play a generation and a sindt but was looking for something louder for sessions, so I got an aluminum Burke. It just wasn’t what I expected. Perhaps I’ll try and trade it for a brass. Cheers, LeeAnn
