This is about as off-topic as you can get, I’m afraid, but I don’t know where else to ask, so here goes…
I have a young nephew who has recently discovered that he has hormones He is evidently rather fond these days of cologne, and that’s what he wants for Christmas. What I don’t know about men’s cologne would fill a small library (my husband doesn’t wear it, and frankly, it all smells the same to me). What is the well-scented young gentleman wearing these days? Is there something that’s “in” among younger guys? If I’m going to get it for him, I’d like to get something nice, you know?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Redwolf, I don’t know what’s “in” nowadays, but I’ve tried a lot of colognes, and I think the regular Stetson is the best fragrance in the whole wild world. Go sniff a sample, and see what you think.
What about the original, first ready-bottled perfume ever (ca. 1810) Eau de Cologne Impériale from Guerlain?
It’s so old it’s back to be quite modern.
Nice bottle with bumblebees, too (see, dear [testosterone-driven youngster], see these bees ? Now you and your cousine, it’s all the same…)
PS: please spare us comments on French perfume for hormone-driven young men
My teenage sons love to buy all their clothes at Abercrombie & Fitch, and I noticed they have a men’s fragrance there… This is a store that caters to kids in that age group ~ young men, so I’d give it a try. Even if it doesn’t smell great to you, knowing where it came from often spells statu*s to young guys.

I think one of the “name” labels like Abercrombie & Fitch, Tommie Hilfiger, etc. would be a good idea. However, I can remember back in the olden days the girls in high school fighting to sit behind handsome Tony C. who always wore Jade East(sadly, I don’t think they even make it any more). sigh

My favourite is very cheap and home made. It’s called BO. Like the whistle of the same abbreviation its’s very chiffy and works best when thoroughly warm.
Redwolf, I’m not sure what the “young guys” are into right now… but I know that I really love the smell of CK’s Obsession for men, and Avon has (had?) a really nice one called Black Leather. CK1 isn’t bad either.
-Dunno whats current, but a hybrid of Hai Karate, English Leather and Lemon-Lime scent used to earn smooches in the parlor in my courting days. (before recorded history)

My favorite is patchouli oil. That might be too distinctive though, a lot of people don’t like it.I like anything that has an earthy, herbal smell, what I really want is to find something that smelled like cedar, then I could smell like a hamster.

I recall this is the all-time Aussie favourite - positively resplendent in the old rugby changing rooms if I recall. I fear though that our American members won’t have the “BO” reference.
Redwolf - men (old and young) are not good at this sort of stuff. Women, however, are. I suggest you ask some young women - they’ll quickly get you up to speed. I use “Fahrenheit” because it’s the only one that smells okay on me (I’m told) - it also gets occasional positive comments from female friends so I’m sticking with it!

I thought that the only reason for patchouli was to cover the smell of marijuana smoke!
