Very cool "Swarmanoid" robot

This article has a video that shows 3 different types of robots working together to retrieve a book (including one robot that has a magnetic grappling hook and that can climb, and another that can fly and perch on the ceiling).

And here’s the Swarmanoid project website: http://www.swarmanoid.org/

  1. That book did not need to be retrieved. Who wants to read a book about something that looked like a sumo wrestler scaring a little girl?
  2. The bots need to ditch their snooty English accent narrator and get a more updated urban or more comforting southern friend if they’re going to rock the world.
  3. The lights are totally 70’s. And not the good disco Studio 51 70’s either. Pitiful Simon memory game 70’s.

Let’s see the bots save Angelina Jolie from a rushing tidal wave.

That’s for version 2.0.

I think they were in this 1987 movie.

I rather like the lights. The grappling hook is awesome
as are the quadcopters’ ceiling suction cups. I wonder
how much of that footage they had to fake.

Here’s swarmbots doing something slightly creepier.
Apparently scaring children just comes with the
swarmbot territory:

they’re gonna have to be a lot faster to be any fun with the cats…

I use a special graphite powder spray on swarm-bots in our vegetable garden. Seems to be fairly effective.

Seems like a poopload of trouble just to go get a book. Rube Goldberg would have been proud.
