Venezuelan Ambassador on Pat Robertson Threat

Susan’s sarcasm,
Nano’s irony,
brewerpaul’s brewskis,
Blackwood’s reacting…

She neglected to use the sarcasm emoticon.

I suppose we can add “bearing false witness” to his sin account.

So that’s a more literate way of saying, “Yadda, yadda, yadda…”?

I suspect Susan already knows all that. I detected a large amount of sarcasm in her post.

If she did, my apologies for raising the obvious

I always wanted to be an announcer! :astonished:

Yes, jsluder, your sarcasm detector is working properly. (There are a few folks on the board who use emoticons in nearly everything they post and I’ve become so aware of it that I try very hard not to use them at all.)

Susan

But they’re so cute…

I tried that…it went very poorly!

It’s amazing he should deny something so easy to verify.

His supporters are also using that same line, calling into radio shows etc, claiming that he never said “assassination.”

Ah . . . but you left out one very important point. God is on our side.

Do I think that Pat Robertson is pompous, arrogant, and overstepped what he ought to have? Yes. Do I think it’s the government’s business to say what constitutes religious speech? I do not.

Someone help me out here. Didn’t President Regan also get himself into the same sort of quandry. I vaguely recall that he made some comment about how certain heads of state should be “terminated” (or some other euphemistic term for assassinated). He explained his way out of it by saying he was talking about people voting the individuals out of office. Yeah, sort of like the Italians voted out Mussolini.

I was gonna say what Brewerpaul said. So I won’t.

Back in my younger days I lived in Norfolk, VA. The self-righteousness of people like Robertson and the vast assortment of like minded people in that area turned me away from church, God, bible and everything related at that time.

I remember when “Life of Brian” came out. A couple guys I knew were going to protest it. When I asked if they’d seen the movie they were appalled. According to them their pastor (look up “Rock Church + Virginia Beach”) and Pat Robertson had proclaimed it evil and that was good enough.

At first I was trying to figure this out, and then I realized I was thinking of Brian’s Song. Yeah… I don’t think Life of Brian went over very well with the Christian conservatives.

You be far off base with the law, then. The government has a keen interest in qualifying religious and charitable speech, because these qualify for a tax exemption while ordinary speech does not. There are centuries of legislation and precedent which bear upon this issue.

Just goes to show…the farther away from the center you go, the less of a sense of humour you have…

Flydood, If my religious leader told me a movie was evil, I’d probably run right out and watch it :smiling_imp:
As it is, i think we can trust Monty Python more with our souls than a lot of the bigoted religious leaders lately.

In fact, come to think of it, you could start your own church centered around the Monty Python cannon of material

yeah- communion wafers could be made out of SPAM!

And the processionals and recessionals all use coconuts to make horse hoof sounds!

And this guy could be our patron saint!
