Vegas whistling?

I’ll be passing through Las Vegas on business in the near future -

Is there anything of particular interest thats Irish / Celtic / Traditional / whistle that I ought to check out?

I’ve searched the web - Vegas seems to have everything but this kind of thing. (Other than LOTD at NYNY)

Any particularly good whistle or trad music stores there? Those folks always seem to have a good handle on the local scene…

Hmmm, maybe check a music store that sells “Band” equipment, but I would have to say good luck to that one. I was just out in Vegas a month or so ago. Stayed at the Imperial Palace on the eighth floor. I spent quite a bit of time on the balcony whistling away. Most people didn’t seem to notice, a few looked up though. No standing ovations either:) I thought about hitting the corners with a hat to pipe up some change, but got scared of the police. Something tells me they don’t allow street musicians in Vegas. Good Luck anyhows and have a great trip!
BTW-anyone know of a good store in Southern Cali. for whistles or fifes?

I was hoping to find a “session” or live irish/trad/celtic band. I tried what you said but didn’t find much. Also, I was busy with work stuff and didn’t get as much chance to look around as I hoped.

I asked at a couple of “band” music stores if there was any local “sessions” or Celtic or contra dances or anything of that nature. No luck. Also asked if there was a local music store specializing in Irish or “traditional” music and they didn’t know of any.

One of the Casinos off the strip allegedly features an Irish pub with a band, but I didn’t get a chance to check it out.

I did check out the Las Vegas version of Lord of the Dance. Lots of differences from the video versions. For one thing, theres a lot more American flags featured in the show than in the video. Also, they dance to recorded music - no live band - except the two fiddle players. I was actually as interested in the band as the dancing.

Anyway, this exercise made me appreciate my local opportunities more.

Yeah Vegas is good for a couple of things and thats about it. I have a love hate relationship with that place, and after a couple days I’m ready to get out:) Last time I was there I went to a brewery called Gordon Briech (not sure about the last part I know the first part is Gordon) Great food, which is hard to find, excellent beer and a nice clean airy atmosphere. For lounges nothing beats the Peppermill. Oh well thats Vegas. Viva Las Vegas!-Jeff

am i the only whistler in vegas? huhuhu

OK, I went to metacrawler.com and typed in “las vegas irish” and got these sites. There were a BUNCH more though.

Hope this helps.

i was in vegas last december, in the “hotel” new york new york there’s an irish pub called: nine fine irish men.
it was pretty cool, there was live music.
here’s the website:

boy, sure got drunk there…

There is an Irish pub at Palace Station but the live music (Wild Celts I think their name was) was about 25% ITM and 75% rock, etc. The one at NYNY has already been mentioned, from what I have read they used to play more trad stuff but were “encouraged” to Vegas-ify their act to better appeal to the masses. I have looked on the sessioneer and thesession.org for sessions but didn’t find any.

There are a few pubs further away from the strip that I dont know much about but I’ve heard are more traditional.

Will check those out (at least those I can be admitted to).
I just want to see someone, anyone playing the tinwhistle.
Thanks guys!
