USA, New York, New York City, teacher wanted, flute

Perhaps I am just worse at searching the Internet than I thought, or everyone’s on Facebook, which I deleted years ago, but I’m looking for a flute teacher in New York and I haven’t found any information that’s less than a few years old.

I’m a beginner—been playing the whistle for about a year, flute for only a couple of months, and played the saxophone as a child. Mostly I have been happy to learn on my own as I play on my own (I’m not particularly interested in playing at sessions), but the flute is a tricky beast and I want to make sure I’m not reinforcing any bad habits around embouchure, posture, etc.

Looking specifically for someone familiar with the Irish tradition and simple system flutes (I have a keyless instrument at the moment), of course. I’m sure there are a thousand classical Boehm flute instructors in this city.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Mike. I’m a bit too far north to be helpful with specific instructor recommendations, but I suspect others will be along shortly with suggestions.

In the mean time, a good place to start may be contacting your local Comhaltas branch. Their website isn’t the most friendly with regards to getting information about lessons and teachers, but I think the link below will allow you to search for the branch nearest you, and provide an email contact form where you can request specific information.

Hope this helps, good luck with your search.
