US army to produce Mid-East comic
The US military is planning to win the hearts of young people in the Middle East by publishing a new comic.

The army comic may encounter competition from Arab superheroes created by an Egyptian publisher
An advertisement on the US government’s Federal Business Opportunities website is inviting applications for someone to develop an “original comic book series”.

“In order to achieve long-term peace and stability in the Middle East, the youth need to be reached,” the ad says.

Sounds suspicious to me, but then, I’ve always hated propaganda in any form for any cause.

Well if it works half as well as the propaganda of D.A.R.E… :roll:

…or helps recruiting hit all time highs like the videogames… :laughing:

then I would say that chances are that the Egyptian publisher that is putting out Aya, a “vixen who roams the region on her supercharged motorbike confronting crime wherever it rears its ugly head” is probably have more of an impact on the youth of that nation.

speaking of D.A.R.E. - when my oldest was introduced to that program, the DARE cop drove up to school in one of the confiscated vehicles - a fairly new 'Vette. My son’s comment? “Cool - if you are a drug dealer, you get a 'Vette???”
I don’t think that was quite the idea they were trying to present! :smiley:

Did you know that the tourets (sp?) on tanks and armor vehicles is manuvered by something that looks just like a joystick for a video game? And since they use projection screens, and not eye contact, control is just like a video game.
