I’m thinking of upgrading to one of these:

But it’s a bit pricey. I think it’s a cool looking piece of kit (always important for an instrument if you don’t want to look like a complete pratt playing it), but besides that, it seems to be tunable too. And it can be configured ‘on the fly’ (that right, Flydood?) as a Double-Trumpet, a Funny-Flute or a Fantasaxophone.
Anyone got one? I’d like to know a bit more, especially about the tone and how responsive it is before I commit to buy. I’m not entirely sure (since I haven’t actually seen the movie) but they might’ve been playing one of these in ‘Titanic’?
You know, I do believe that I saw one when Celtic Storm was playing in the party scene. They seemed to be trying to hide it, but I have sharp eyes, I do.
You have to get one, Gary. It’s just so YOU!!!
On the fly? Wow. Notice the dual mouthpieces in the image.
I think it’s poorly named. I’d get some credentials from the craftperson if I were you. I can see the saxophone influences, but how is it flute-like? And I see that it can, in a sense, be tweaked, but the color scheme might begin to give me a headache.
All in all, I’d recommend it only if you’re planning to bring marbles to your next session so you can drop them down the tube for entertainment between sets. (Warning: if you plan to let your hamster run around in the pieces when you’re not using it, watch out for extra holes.)
Another name for a whistle is an end-blown fipple flute. This has lovely fipples!
Be careful to dry it out after use Gary, you don’t want to get fipple-rash or chapped fipples.
Well now I’m in a quandary, especially since there’s another model available on eBay which is transparent! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=80546&item=5960898987&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
I like the idea that it’s sort of collapsible, a bit like my precioussss in that respect. And I get the feeling that you could probably change keys ‘on the fly’ too.
Of course, the transparent one would help with the hamster issues that emm mentioned, and help locate any stuck marbles. But I’m a bit concerned that the vendor on eBay describes it as a ‘toy’ (but then the uneducated masses say that about all kinds of musical instruments, as we all well know).
Decisions decisions. It’s so very tempting! Does anyone know anything about the maker, Quercetti? I did a search on the forums but nothing came up…
Looks like it can go from low D to high D fairly easily just by removing the green bits.
