Just wanted to check around and see if any of you good folks have actually had any hands-on experience with the Edirol R1 Mp3 Player/Recorder. I know there was some discussion about it on the board , but , it seemed no one had really tried the unit. I’m thinking about picking up a new recorder for home , session and concert recording and was hoping for some feedback before I made the jump. Thanks , in advance for any help or info you can share.

I’ve been using the Edirol R1 for several months now to record concerts and rehearsals, and a great little apparatus it is. Actually I always record Wave instead of MP3. This takes a really big CF-card (2GB), but the results are excellent. It’s extremely comfortable after recording just to stick the card into the PC, transfer the files and brush them up right away. Besides, the built in micros are surprisingly good, no need for any external stuff. Ok, it’s not cheap, but surely value for the money anyway.

Thanks for the information , Claus ! Glad to hear that the Edirol-R1 is working out so well for you. Sounds like the kind of unit I’m looking for. It’s pretty much a “given” that the more quality and more functionality we expect from something … the higher the price. That’s why I wanted some practical advice , about the unit , before I started shopping. I don’t mind paying the higher prices , as long as I’m getting a reasonable return for the money spent. I don’t expect miracles. It’s not intended to make my playing sound any better , just so it doesn’t make it sound a whole lot worse !!!
