unplayed flute

i have an ormiston flute that i can’t play and it’s been in its case for the last few years - is it going to deteriorate because i don’t do anything to maintain it?

Keep it well oiled and humidified, and it’ll be fine. Or give it to me, and I’ll take good care of it.

Sorry, but… uh… Why “can’t” you play it? Is there something about the flute that is not to your liking, or ??
It might be that someone on this list would like it, if you were inclined to sell, nice flutes sell pretty quickly around here…
Just a thought.

What number is it?

i don’t play it because i suppose i didn’t try hard enough - i play the uillean pipes though - i didn’t know it had a number - i’ll have to check it
thanks for the responses

I’d consider doing what Glenn Schultz made me do…take the head off of it, and when you’re just putzing around the house (taking a walk, whatever), use it to practice making a “noise” with. This will help develop a beginning embochoure and possibly get you re-interested in the flute…for a while I couldn’t make a toot on a flute if my life depended on it, and this helped me. I think you’ll find the only really frustrating thing about making the transision to flute is that you don’t have the bag/bellows to rely on for air, and have to think about breathing (there’s a blonde joke there somewhere, but I’m not touching it).
