Did UPS change their rates on the first of October?
When I tabulated the shipping, a few days ago, on the bowed psaltery, it was a different rate than when I actually ordered it, yesterday. My mother was going to order some clothes out of the mail order catalogue, and it said shipping rates expire on the last of September.
What can Brown do TO you?
I wouldn’t be surprised if they did, I’m sure gas prices have impacted the cost of shipping.
Every shipping place is raising their prices unbelievably.
When she buys a USPS stamp that costs $0.37, my grandmother usually says she can feel the day when a stamp costs a dollar getting closer, and she muses about how, when she was growing up, stamps cost a few cents each.
I sent a package to Doc Jones in Idaho using UPS it cost $14 and the same package for USPS Priority with insurance would have cost half that and gotten there quicker. Needless to say I will not be using UPS unless I have to.

Another little trick that UPS, FEDX, DHL, etc. are using is that they came to some kinda agreement with USPS and now I have to deliver a lot of their packages to the people. They come in to the post office during the day(after I’ve already left on the route) and dump a bunch of packages for me to deliver on my route the next day. When they do this, they scan them as “delivered” so someone checking online thinks the package has reached the adressee, when in acutality it is not delivered until I run the route the next day.
Ironically, it would be closer for them to just deliver to the persons house than drive to the post office.
This is a good example of executives who have no real idea of what it takes to actually deliver the packages making really bad decisions.
Rural carriers who deliver true rural routes do not have the postal owned vehicles and have to provide our own. Very few of us have the vans needed to deliver these parcels, and certainly don’t have hand trucks or dollys to move the things. I wonder if the decision makers took in to account all the sick days and workers comp they are going to get hit with because of related injuries.
We live in a completely crazy world.
They do this in West Virginia as well. Many houses (such as my grandmother’s) don’t have street addresses because there are no streets. The USPS mail gets delivered to the Post Office, but UPS, FEDX, etc also send it to the PO.
My worst delivery experience was with UPS. I had ordered a $$$ piece of jewelry for my mother’s Christmas present one year. A seasonal UPS driver stopped at a store 8 miles from my house, asked if anyone knew where I lived. A customer in the store said he did … so the driver gave him my package and asked him to take it to me!! 
You better believe the local UPS center and the retailer got an earful!

I used to work for UPS…my father still does. He’s in upper management here in SLC.
I can tell you exactly why their rates are going up and will go up more in the future, regardless of what petrolium does…
in the mid 90s their employee turnover rate was less than 25%, while I was working there, their turnover rate was 51%, today their employee turnover rate is more than 75% (these numbers represent the percentage of their employees that quit within their first year. Their actual turnover rate is well beyond 50%, that includes veteran employees. Nationwide turnover rate for the entire company is approaching 50%.) I had/still have access to these numbers because part of my responsibility there was to help monitor turnover and make suggestions to improve the turnover rate.
UPS is a sinking ship…it would not surprise me at all to see them in Chapter 11 reorganization in less than ten years.
When I was about eleven or so, my mother ordered some Christmas gift packs from Swiss Colony— the ones with the assortments of cheeses and what not. We lived in the country… rural route… and UPS got to our place, and nobody was home, so they just left the package on the step, by the door. My cousin’s ravenous dogs found the package before we got home, and they ate it.
I just noticed that yesterday. My wife had ordered some clothes from LL Bean, who uses FedEx. The FedEx packages were stuffed in our mailbox (a locking box, and only the USPS has the other key). Puzzled, I looked at the address label. The instructions indicated that FedEx should deliver to our PO, and the USPS should deliver to our home. This being the case, what’s the point of using FedEx or UPS anymore?
