I was watching the Unforgiven western on tv the other day. The first time since I stated playing whistle, and I noticed how cool the theme song is, the one they play at the end when he is by his wifes grave.
Does anyone know what its called or how to play it.
It is called “Claudia’s Theme”. It IS a nice song, although I am not sure how well it can translate to the whistle. I believe Lennie Niehaus is the composer. To me, it sounds very European soundtrack like, if you know what I mean. Like a Morricone piece, almost.
The melody is simple enough that you can probably pick it up by ear (the chord changes in the background are what makes it, though…)
-Didn’t notice the music much when the movie was released, just the theme: the emptiness of vengeance sought or accomplished, and its corrosive effect on those seeking it.
-Can’t beat the whining harmonicas in “Once Upon A Time In The West”-scored by Morricone I think.
True. But the music has a beauty and sweetness to it that underscores, or rather is a setting, by contrast, for the theme you eloquently describe.
