UNAMED FLUTE - ANY IDEAS ????

Hi all,

just wondered if anyone can shed some light on this flute in the pictures, it appears to be of some age, unlined head, thread wrapped tennons thin brass looking bands, no damage and has a nice tone.

dose anyone know of a similar looking flute, and are there any makers that did not sign their early flute creations ???

cheers sponge

8 hole keyless are a pretty modern concoction.

Can’t be that old, eh?

How is the tuning?

Looks nice.

Give it to me.

All the unkeyed Pakistani types I have seen have either had a Pratten style main body joint plus a dummy foot, or no long foot and a two piece German style division of the body. I haven’t seen any with a full pre- Pratten English style division of the joints (two body sections) plus a long foot like this. That’s not to say it couldn’t be Pakistani or Indian, but I haven’t seen anything similar thence. Especially if it plays OK, one can only guess in the absence of any stamps or other clear diagnostic features that it is probably a relatively early European made modern ITM type. Unless anyone can recognise a known maker’s style, I’d say you just have to forget that aspect and go on how it plays in terms of valuing it, both financially and for personal use.
