Ultra-low whistles at Dusty Strings in Seattle...

On Monday I stopped by Dusty Strings for a few minutes while on a business trip to Microsoft…

They had some ultra-low whistles, I think all the way down to G below the normal low D. No way I could even start to reach the holes with my hands, but that was the first I’ve seen of ultra-low whistles. I believe they also had a C, B-flat, and an A, all below low D.

What brands were they?

hmmm…interesting…Overtons?

I wish I could play the Low Bb, I guess it sounds more of a flute + overton-sound?

As official staff Podiatrist of Chiff and Fipple, I recommend using your toes for those pesky lowest holes…

C is doable.

Dusty Strings? Sounds kinky.

Unplayably low whistles? sounds like a Microsoft demo version.

Or where they supersize display fakes?

If I am not mistaken they are the whistles I sent to them a couple of weeks ago
Colin

ps- they should be playable but for the G it helps if you have arms like an orang utan and hands the size of shovels

But I thought the Librarian played only the B.S. Johnson version of the pipe organ.

Pratchett?

Ook!

You got it in one.

(Now I’ve got visions of the Librarian sitting atop the stacks playing a Goldie Overton Low G. Though given his personallity and habits, wouldn’t a special Low G Serpent Village Smithy be more appropriate, and likely to last? Colin, how well would your Low G stand up to being used a a weapon in a barroom brawl?)

Hold it by the mouth piece and no problem. It will easily keep a large diameter of free space around you :smiling_imp:
