Uilleann Workshop in Strathspey

Just a word about the Strathspey in May Festival in Grantown on Spey this year. I’m a novice Uilleann piper and attended the workshop taken by Boyd Peters and had a brilliant time. Boyd was an excellent tutor who answered the myriad of questions I had saved up for many months and gave me some insight into the dark art of Uilleann Piping. Until I attended the workshop, I was going round in circles trying to find some way to control and improve my playing. Boyd has given me a way forward with tips on technique, tone and methods of practising. He is no mean player too and plays a cracking full set of Rogge pipes. We were also lucky enough to get a tune from Jarlath Henderson, a brilliant player from N.I. who was playing at the concert that night. Some great playing from Boyd and Jarlath, a shot on a nice set of Rogge Pipes and some great tuition, capped of with a fantastic concert by “The Back of the Moon” band and Jarlath Henderson, what a brilliant weekend  . Thanks Boyd.

As another participant in Boyds UP workshop I can only echo Georges comments. A really great days teaching. It really is true that learning from an excellent teacher face to face is the most valuable way to learn. I learnt more in five minutes than weeks of trying to learn on my own with a book! And you should see the homework we went away with!!
