DONE! Terry Riley’s “In C” this weekend,…almost an ITM event! Low & Hi D whistles, Irish flute, Uilleann pipes, Fiddle, along with 6 ‘straight’ instruments. Just a private thing between musicians, no audience, entirely for our own amusement.
Its tons of fun, Has anyone else had the pleasure of playing uilleann on this quintessential 1964 seminal quasi minimal trip-out improv??
…speak English, you fool! ![]()
I too was flummoxed, so I tried Googling “In C”. I do believe ChasR means this:

Found the original recording, Part 1…
And for semi-aleatoric contrast here is a recorded version by Acid Mothers Temple.
Any chance of posting a recording?
OH By Jove! I say! Jolly good & all that rot, wot? Blimey mate wots a poor blighter to do? ![]()
Got it in one Nano…should the opprotunity to participate come along for any chiffers, I highly reccomend it! I didnt think pipes would work, (and indeed there s some parts that are quite a challenge) but there were places in the piece where uilleann goes perfectly.
& No Oloerez., we didnt record it. it came into being & vanished, like a puff of steam coming off the hood of an 89 pontiac on a winters night. I wouldnt lie about minimalism. ![]()
just incase anyone wants to give it a go:

Well done ChasR! I had the distinct pleasure of playing ‘In C’ on a ‘C’ set (of course) with Terry Riley, Kronos Quartet, and about 60 others a couple of years ago at Carnegie Hall. What a great time and fascinating experience. Glad you enjoyed your foray!
