Hey lady, how is your leg. Last I heard was that it was fairly well broken.
Ken
Why thank you for asking Ken! I’m doing wunnerfully, and rather than give you a blow by blow on my break and recovery, may I point you to http://www.mybrokenleg.com. Click on the DIARIES on the left-hand side and scroll way down to #52. My diary reads from the bottom up.
What my broken leg did NOT do was give me any extra time to play and practice whistling. I spent a whole lot of the early days on my back with the swaddled leg up…not a good position for practicing. When I got more mobile I was still bushed by the end of the day; crutching takes a whole lot of energy!
Another sort of neat thing…in its own way… though I’d never wish it on anyone. . .Ralph Sweet broke his leg a bit before I broke mine, and his recovery has been longer. He used to spend his Wednesday nights Irish dancing, but has since joined our session, and plays flute there. For a while he and I sure looked like the Gimp Brigade!
As far as sessions in Ireland while I was still on cast and crutches, the people were absolutely wonderful. The places we went to were packed SOLID with people, but when I got to my foot a magical path opened in front of me. Though I got a lot of polite help here in the USA, it was nothing like the pubs in Sligo where everyone seemed to know where I was going and cleared paths, opened doors, ferried my pint ahead of me.
Anyway, while we’re talking of legs. . .ANNA. . .How’s yours??? You had a far rougher row to hoe!

Actually, Tyg, I’m up running about, lifitng weights and hankering to get out of this chute!
Remember, guys, that Jigs were invented just for people with one leg shorter than the other…

Thyghrhessh! Glad to hear you’re improving. I am awfully bummed about never making it on Wednesday nights. Can’t even begin to list all the reasons, and anyway they would reveal to much of my pedestrian existance.
Hope you are doing well and say hi to hThyg an OX and all the others, including Ralph S. Any chance to catch at the Harp this month? I’ll tell you a shorter way to get there, this time… ![]()
Best,
Hey Tygress,
Until now I thought Percocet and Torudol were two Elves from LotR!
Or Maybe Percocet Took and Torudol Brandybuck!
You Americans have such great names for your painkillers! Please can you list some more?
Good to know you’ve kept your sense of humour throughout the experience. I got pretty narked when I broke a little toe, which to date remains the only broken bone I’ve ever suffered. Must have steel bones or something.
Martin, I’ve since developed a reaction to Perc’s. They made me itch from head to toe. Tyghre (who is a registered nurse) had me taking Percocet plus Benadryl to counter the itchies until I got a script for Vicodin (sounds like a wizard, doesn’t it? Vicodin the White?)
I really have learned about better living through pharmaceuticals. My latest love affair is with Celebrex which was for the neck problem but managed, in two weeks, to make EVERY JOINT in my body feel like it was 20 years younger. No kidding! Unfortunately my insurance won’t cover it and it is expen$ive. Now I’m hoarding 'em for when the arthritis really kicks up.
Hi Bloo! We really do miss you at CS! I couldn’t go last week because work got very messy, but I’ll be there tonight and let everyone know you’re still alive. The Harp is a real possibility, but not this Friday. I’ve given up on Sundays for a while because it got to be 50% vocals and I was alternately bored outta my gourd and bitchy. Why should I go if I"m not having fun, eh? Tyghre (you put our H’s in the right place or ELSE! anyone besides you can slip up, but you are a cat of a different stripe, buster!) and I are thinking of trying Anna Liffey’s next, or finding where Tony Morris plays and just going down there to be punters.
Anna. . .isn’t relearning to walk FUN!!! I felt like a kid. It was so thrilling to be a biped again!
Let’s be thankful that Tyg is on the mend and be aware of how serious such an injury can be. My own mother, for example, died of complications that came from a problem with her knee.
Also, I heard yesterday, from a well-known Irish rock star, whose wife spoke to a even bigger one, that Shane McGowan (The Pogues) is in hospital after breaking a leg. There are serious concerns for his health, at the moment.
Let’s wish him well.
Steve
