Thanks Carol - I received my treasures today. The intro text was almost worth the price alone. And the music!!! Whistling and lilting…And that last air is the most hauntingly beautiful…

I got mine today too, and have been immersed in it since it arrived. The introduction is great work, Steve. The entire book is wonderfully done, and I can see it’s going to be well-worn before long. As others have mentioned, the last air “By the Side of the Rock” is stunningly beautiful and I’ve played that track over and over. An added bonus for me: I’ve been working on a tune lesson where I was specifically supposed to put in tongued triplets, and have been “stuttering” over them. Using Packie’s method - saying “diddle-dee” instead of “ta-ka-ta” - I had them down in no time!
Susan
(Edited for a question: I couldn’t find a listing of the musicians on the CD, specifically who’s playing what instrument in each tune. Any chance you’ve got that stored in your memory banks, Steve?)
That was an oversight by the publisher, Susan - corrected in the reprint. You must have got one of the original print run. The details are up on this page:

Glad you’re enjoying it, Susan, and Phil.

I just played the CD for the first time today, and everyone is so right about that last tune..I got out the box of kleenex and worked on it with my Clark playing along with Paddy. It was worth buying just for that tune alone (now to learn it, as it is absolutely in my top ten tunes). Play that tune at a wake and it will send even the Puritans to the whisky bottle. ![]()
I alsi bought Ireland’s slow airs with the double CD set, but compared to a dossan of heather (which I should never have played first) it was a dissapointment to me. I’m sure I will get back to it sometime.

Thanks, StevieJ, for the info regarding individual tracks, I printed it up to be included with my book ~ it’s a treasure!
I, too, have the 101 Slow Airs, and I love the book, use it lots, have never listened to the CD however!

Today I received my copy of Phenigma and it’s absolutely beautiful. In case you missed it before, Steve has just about 10 tapes left. So you better hurry!
