I have two overton whistles, a Mezzo Soprano Bb at 200$Can and a Low D at 245$Can made by Colin Goldies in 1999. Whistles come with nylon bag, perfect condition, and certificate. They have been totally refurnished and really look like new whistles. The playability is up standing. Whistles are for middle-easy blower, and back pressure is very comfortable, with easy octave transition and smooth over both octaves. They sound very good. Take the chance to play with them.

As it is Christophe’s first mail, just wanted to add he is a really nice guy and that the whistles have been “back home in the workshop” and Colin cleaned and reworked them to like new.

Hi Brigitte,
I am curious to learn how a whistle can be reworked and made like new again ?
Could you tell us what kind of procedure Colin follows to rejuvenate his
instruments ? I think that many forum members would also be interested !
Thanks, Gerardo
Hello,
well, it depends on the whistle what Colin does to them when they come back for a repair or like in Christoph’s case for a “refurbishment” as he moved to tunable instruments. It also gave Colin a good idea on what Christoph’s new whistles should be like as far as playability as he was happy with the old ones.
At first they get thoroughly cleaned out, the body and the mouthpiece and then completely re-polished on the outside and washed. They should then visually look like new.
Like I am sure with every other maker, over the years his work has changed as he keeps developing it. So when a whistle comes here, depending how old the whistle is or how it plays and what the player wants, Colin can apply working processes to it that he had introduced over the years after that particular whistle was made. Usually he talks this through on the phone and gives the player a good idea of what can change and then lets them decide. Of course if a whistle was made to be a harder blower than converting it to a softer blower does not work and vice versa, etc.
Greetings
Brigitte
Thank you Brigitte. One final question if you allow me: a traditional classic Goldie/Overton whistle, with no
specific modifications asked by the buyer, is a hard blower or a soft blower ?
A “medium (+/-)” blower with his current standard fingering I would think.

Sorry, Brigitte, but I have to ask about your signature line. My german is poor, but it seems to say something like “If the clever people do nothing the stupid ones will run the world”.
Is that close?
You are right it means something like "If the (knowledgeable/educated) give in, the stupid run/govern the world.
I think it is time to change it, I set it up I think shortly before the re-election of the 43rd president took place…
…but this is subject of the “rubber-room”…
