Tweaking.

The mouthpiece came off of my whistle, so I considered it a sign and followed the tweaking guide on here. It helped a lot to smooth out the notes, everything sounds a lot cleaner now. But I have a couple of problems.

First, I can’t seem to get the sticky-tac flat on the end, it’s kind of rough, is that a problem or should I take it out and try with wax? Also, although the notes are smoother now, the high notes are brilliant, but the low notes slip into the higher octave far too easy, I have to blow really softly on the lowest note, any higher and it will change up. And when it does it’s not smooth, there’s a really rough sound as it’s changing. What should I do to fix that?

The surface should be flat and smooth. Use the eraser end of a new pencil or the end of a chopstick or somethng similar to tamp it down and smooth it out. Wetting the end slightly can help to keep your tamper from sticking to the putty.

That’s normal. And hard for beginning players. A very gentle breath just above a whisper on the bell note.

Fix up your putty first, then re-check the whistle.
