i got my clarke original in the mail today, and i noticed the air requirement is (gasp!, wheeze!) quite high, and i flattened the windway a bit, now the air requirement is just fine but the the two bottom notes sound a tad too sharp.. how do i fix this? i was thinking to open up the windway a bit but that would just increase the air requirement back up..
You can blow the notes into tune, of course. You can also tweak the tuning by wrapping tape around the tube so it blocks off a little of the top of the hole that is sharp. Move the tape up and down until the note is where you want it then wrap the tape once or twice around the tube. Electrical tape works well as does scotch tape. The tape makes the hole smaller in addition to moving it down, which probably has an effect on the sound but I haven’t noticed much difference if tape only covers 10 or 15% of the hole. Hopefully, one of our resident tweakers will enlighten us on the exact effect of making the holes smaller.
thanks! i tried that and it does help
