tutorial books

Hi guys,

could you guys recommend the best book for a total beginner, i have looked at some of the tutorial websites and they are great but i would’nt mind buying a book that i could carry around with me for when i haven’t got internet access, i have a couple of cheap whistles a Meg in D and a Sweetone in C, also any advice will be greatly appreciated

My personal favourites :
The Clarke Tin Whistle Handbook by Bill Ochs
The Penny Whistle Book by Robin Williamson
I have several others, none of which I’m dissatisfied with - it’s probably easier to ask which books you should avoid - I’ve not found one

kaizersoza, hello and welcome. Great nym, btw.
I really like Bill Och’s book and CD.

There are others, of course, but that is the first one I went with.

thanx for your response guys will check them out forthwith

L.E. McCullogh’s Tin Whistle Tutor is a great one. Also Geraldine Cotter’s and Grey Larsen’s books.

Many to choose from, each with a slightly different approach. But anything that gets up playing, and listening, is good.

Have a ball.

i would also recommend the Ochs book to start, although i skipped large sections of it because he also plays tunes that are in other traditions that ITM (maybe that’s not a concern for you).

I did all the tutorials from the Ochs book, then switched to Clare McKenna’s “A Complete Guide to Learning The Irish Tin Whistle” which is a great book (and more in the ITM tradition).

I’d avoid books that don’t come with cds and also check out Brother Steve’s website if you haven’t already
