Tuning your session

Three high whistles (one of them untunable), one low D, two flutes, three fiddles (one of them not too good), two guitars, mandolin… Well, maybe not exactly these, but you’ve got the point.

Even when someone brings a tuner to session and we try to use it, it does not sound tuned.

Do all sessions suffer from that? Is there any way to change things?

Our sessions are usually pretty well in tune.

Everybody has electronic tuners and at the start everybody tunes their instruments to A=440.

Instruments include
1-3 uilleann pipes (yes, all in tune!)
1-2 concertinas
1-2 flutes
1-3 whistles
1-5 fiddles
1-2 guitars
1-2 hammer dulcimers
1 Scottish smallpipe (sorry!)
