I saw the Legend Tommy Peoples recently so I decided to take up some of his tunes:

can’t get this tune out of my head, it’s fantastic… :smiley:

Sharon Shannon does Monahan Jig, a lovely 3-parter. It’s in my “working” pile right now.

I know the “Monaghan” jig is often played with 3-parts, but I’d say it’s more commonly played with 4. The last part is quite tricky, but makes a good tune even better.

I have looked at several versions of the fourth part and I can’t find one that sounds like the one I’ve heard that I like (which is the one in Clips and Snips by Tony, I think. I should probably just ask him for it. )

It’s been recorded by Michael Coleman, Mary Bergin has it on Feadoga Stan.
A written version is in Miles Krassen’s edition of O’Neill’s.

I prefer the three part version though.

Try the Drunken Sailor. One I’ve been looking at lately. Another great People’s one.

Here’s the abc for the version I learned. I’ve compared it to Mary Bergin’s playing on the cd. It’s close, but nowhere exact. My own version has evolved away from this one, as well.

Thanks for the ABC’s. I’ve got Mary Bergin’s Feadoga Stain part I and love it. :smiley:

I haven’t got the O’Neill’s, although I know I should really have it.

BTW; I use woodenflute.com. There are a few versions there too. I recommend that it’s worth a look also.
