Anyone knows the name of the first tune in the set played by Lunasa called Morning Nightcap on Merry sisters of fate. I can’t seem to find the cd think I’ve lent it to someone…

The Wedding Reel.
I used to say that too…until I started playing the tune here in Scotland…and folk started assuring me it was a well known Scottish tune with a different name.
Of course, in a pub and drunk at the time, I can never remember the name they tell me…but there ya go…!!!

Cillian learned it and taught it to the rest of the band - it was he that thought it was called the wedding reel - or so the story goes if you’ve seen Lunasa live playing that piece. It may well have other names as well though…as do many of the tunes we all know.
Here is the note from the Lunasa tune book:
“The Wedding Reel, we recently discovered was composed by the Scottish wiz-kid Donald Shaw. It is a wonderful tune that’s more commonly played in the key of E Major; a key that is fine on the fiddle, but is pretty awkward on the flute and absolutely torturous on the pipes. We play it in the much more relaxing key of D Major.”
