Tune Type / Instrument Pairings

I was reading through jayhawk’s thread on tunes you hate and after thinking about it, could come up with none.Any dislikes were down to the performance, not the tune.

What it did show up was that I preferred certain tune types on certain instruments as follows

Airs - pipes or box
waltzes - fiddle or banjo
mazurkas - pipes and whistle
reels - flute
jigs - pipes
slip jigs - banjo or mandolin
slides - concertina or harmonica
marches - pipes or fiddle
polkas - whistle
strathspeys/highlands - whistle or fiddle

has anybody else noticed that they have instrumental preferences when listening to a particular tune type?

The only one I can really think of is my old favorite air, Brauch na Carrige Baine. Oddly enough I only like it on a high whistle, not on a low one. I usually LOVE airs on low whistle, but that particular one I prefer it higher. I feel like it “soars” more on a high whistle, maybe?
