On Jean-Michel Veillon’s CD “Pont Gwenn ha Pont Stang” (flute, sorry) he plays a great set of Irish reels, one of which is “The Reel With the Beryle”. A search of the my usual sites came up empty. Does anyone have a source for the music? It would save me some transcription time.

Bruce, if I’m not mistaken, on one of the Chieftain’s early albums (7? 8?) this title is given to a tune that is basically a Co. Clare setting of “Drowsy Maggie”. (And if I am not further mistaken they paired it with “The Wind that shakes the barley”.)
Does J-MV’s tune sound Drowsy Maggie-ish, the first part, anyway? If so, you can probably find it under this title.
Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill play a Drowsy Maggie type tune on The Lonesome Touch that’s called The Reel with the Burl. Alas, a search at JC’s turned up nothing. Compare it with Drowsy Maggie though and maybe you’ll get it.

It’s a variant spelling of “birl”, which it seems is a Scots piping ornament. (See here:

I’ve heard Irish musicans use “berl” or “berl”, especially in Donegal, to refer to, I think, a good driving quality in a tune. Sort of “The reel with woomph”.

It appears to insist on an X: line. (I added it to test, and then left it in.) Looks like the ABC spec requires it to be the first header – sort of a “this entry begins here” thing.
I have just corrected a mistake in the ABC code that was preventing the concertina.net MIDI generator from playing the complete tune. The “2” for the second-time bar was missing and the MIDI file stopped there. So if you scroll up to the post with the ABC code and click the concertina.net link, you can hear the thing.
