Tune Name?

Has anyone got a name for this simple jig? I was told Walsh’s, but that doesn’t seem to match anything I can find in tune books.

I won’t tell you how long it took me to figure out how to put this into abc. I don’t know why abc2win doesn’t like G3 for a dotted quarter note in 6/8. Any experts?

It appears mostly sort of nameless. Donncha O Briain in the Golden Eagle calls it Tommy Mulhare’s

Yes. If I can’t get a dotted quarter note to work, I wasn’t about to attempt all the cuts and rolls. I tried to simplify the tune as much as possible to get it to fit into the constraints of abc. I have The Golden Eagle on order from NPU.

I suspect (I don’t use abc2win, being a Linux using weirdo) that your problem is that you need to put a space in between beats. What you’re saying to the interpreter is that you want every note in a bar beamed together (maybe abc2win seperates them, but according to the ABC spec I don’t think it should), and when you try to feed it, say, ABcD3, you’re feeding it something that can’t be beamed together as written (you could write ABcD-D-D, but ABC sees that as something different).

Calum, adding spaces around all the notes seems to have straightened it out. The user manual for abc2win is none too helpful.

I have worked in various flavours of NIX for many years, and can assure you that Linux is nowhere near ready for primetime. The capabilities are there, but until someone limits the possibilities into a structured whole (which is basically what the Evil Empire did with UNIX in the first place to create their products) it will still be largely unusable by the general population. I’m not saying I’m against it or anything like that, but years of dealing with people using something as simple as Windows tells me that throwing them into something as wide-open as Linux would not be a good thing.
