Dear Pipers,
Some time between 1977 and 1981, Eugene Lambe (UP), Michel Bonamy (FL), and Frank Hogan (Banjo) made a tape for N.P.U.
Would anybody have a list of tunes for the tape? If so could you send me the names?
Thanks,
David(at)dlevine(dot)ne
If you know the name of the tape, I would bet it is in the Thomas JOHNSON’S UILLEANN PIPE DISCOGRAPHY & TUNE INDEX.
You wouldn’t be refering to “Trip to Fanore”? It has a John Hoban (ie, not Hogan, and not Frank) on banjo? But no Michel Bomany.
Cheers,
DavidG
That’s what I was thinking. I have the tune list somewhere for ‘trip to fanore’. If that’s the one,I’ll dig it out.
Alan
I have it here next to me - it has a pic of Eugene sitting on a rock playing his set with a chanter that appears to have a tenor drone sticking out the top of it. Lots of tunes.
Cheers,
DG
Thanks, but I have the Trip tape. That is a later tape. The tape I have is one I copied while house-sitting Eugene’s, in Fanore, twenty or so years ago. I think he said he made it for NPU. There are six cuts on it and the last one starts with Boys of Ballisodare. The tape is noted as having Frank and Michel on it.
Hi David
The tape is called ‘Show The Lady’ and is one of a set of six tapes, issued by NPU in 1987 and containing music for sets.
Track list for Eugene et al is;
- Fraher’s Jig/Walls of Liscarroll
- King of the Pipers/Wheels of the World/Tobins
- Pipe on the Hob/An Rogaire Dubh/Whelans
- Tone Row/The Luckpenny
- The Flogging Reel/The West Wind/The Maid that left the Country/Touch me if you dare
Tracks 1-4 are jigs and track 5 are reels.
Regards
John Moran
Hello John-- that’s it. The very tape. Mine has six tracks only because I separated the first track to learn the second tune. If you’re in Kilshanny or Ennistymon, Co. Clare, I’ll stand the first pint.
