This little story should be good for a few laughs… and I swear it’s true!
Last week I picked up a 25’ microphone extension cable while visiting my local Radio Shack.
I thought it would be just the thing I needed to eliminate the annoying hum in my recordings caused by my computer.
25’ is enough to run from my PC in the living room into my bedroom where I can shut the door and get great accoustics.
When I tried it out last week, sure enough the hum was gone from my recordings… but I started picking up a Japanese radio station through my PC!
All that jabbering and crazy music in the background of my recordings was worse than the hum ever was. ![]()
Thinking it was just an odd occurance that wasn’t likely to happen again, I tried recording a tune tonight… and started picking up a German radio station through my PC!
Now I suppose I’ll have to pick up a heavy-duty shielded audio cable on my next visit to Radio Shack… but I can’t help but wonder if that’ll solve the problem, or if I might start picking up radio signals that SETI would be interested in hearing! ![]()
