i have a student who is looking to get into the low whistle game, and i remember reading a post here in the last few months about a newer maker making low tech PVC whistles (like GGwhistles, but in the US).
he had a low d for sure, possibly a low f, and probably a high d. they started around $30 or so.
any guesses?
For low cost PVC whistles based on the Low Tech Design you could look at Becker Whistles. http://www.beckerwhistles.com/index.html They are cheap. You’ll get what you pay for.
I do not personally favor the Becker. Guido Gonzato does a much better job IMO.
Daniel Bingamon makes a decent low D in his own design for a low price. http://www.bingamon.com/jubilee/pagesmith/19
There are likely others out there as well. eBay is full of PVC low whistles.

yes, Becker Whistles, that’s the one i was looking for, thanks for the quick response. I do appreciate the feedback as well, one of the tough things about whistle playing is you can’t readily try out as many as you would like (as compared to say, guitars or pianos) and a lot of buying and selling has been the best way for me.
but, for a few students looking for some affordable alto whistles, i think this will be perfect. that way they don’t have start paypal, convert dollars to euros, etc for the GG ones.
At $12 for a low D, and made in the USA, I think you get far MORE than you pay for.
My Beckers sound good. They are excellent whistles for students looking to get started.
