I just took the body off of my Clark Sweetone and put a straight body on it. It sounds pretty good! It is like an ultrawide Sweetone and its quite a bit louder with almost no change in timbre! You could even easily make a C Sweetone, or a B-flat…
I have some brass tubing that I bought at a hobby store that is 21/32 diameter and it telescopes perfectly with the 5/8" tubing that comes from the same rack. The 21/32 tube fits perfectly in the sweetone fipple. You can take a short piece of the 5/8" tube and put it inside the larger to make a real tuning slide.
I know this is a poor description. Probably confusing. Do you think anyone else will be interested in this? I am thinking of documenting it on my web site for ppl that want to putter around.
I think the brand name of the tubing is K&S. Another way to make a sweetone Bb is to put masking tape around a Generation Bb tube to fit the Sweetone fipple. Or just tweak the Generation fipple. The Generation Bb I have done needed build up on the under side of the blade. It coos like a baby now.
The place to go to get this tubing via mailorder is specialshapes.com. May the saints help you if you dont use Winders, though. Their web site hates all of the Mozilla type browsers. They sell this stuff in 1/3/6 foot lengths, but they have a $100 minimum order. Better to find it in a hobby shop if you are not making a batch of 12 whistles… <>
